Cheryl Cole will joining Simon Cowell on US X Factor
She may have thought Dannii Minogue had it tough with Sharon Osbourne, but Cheryl Cole's got a whole new level of snarl ahead of her on the US X Factor panel, in the form of Paula Abdul.
Friends say the controversial former American Idol judge is going all out to make sure Cheryl, 27, doesn't steal her crown.
The 48-year-old, who's famous for taking no prisoners when it comes to giving people a piece of her mind, is having a full face and body overhaul.
Last week, Simon Cowell revealed that Cheryl and Paula will be joining him and LA Reid on the US X Factor panel - and the women, who are now awaiting final contracts, are already sharpening their claws.
?It's going to be fantastically bitchy, which is just what Simon wants on the show,' Now's insider tells us exclusively.
?Both women are used to being Simon's golden girl and Paula isn't going to take kindly to sharing the panel with another woman - especially one so much younger and prettier than she is.
'If she had her way, she'd be the only woman, just like it was on Idol. Paula will make sure she's not sitting next to Cheryl, simply for vanity reasons.'
While Cheryl has also come under fire from the US press and bloggers, who branded her a ?talentless criminal' after they found out about her assault conviction in 2003, friends say she's dismissive of her new rival.
?Cheryl's been laughing about Paula behind her back,' says our insider.
?She's been calling her a "has-been" who's old enough to be her mum.
?That'll infuriate Paula, who had no idea who Cheryl even was until Simon filled her in.'
