Real Madrid footballer Cristiano Ronaldo could be summoned to give evidence in Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's 'bunga bunga' sex trial.

Cristiano, 26, who's the 2nd highest paid soccer player in the world, is one of 78 people named as potential defence witnesses in the case.

George Clooney is also on the list, as is his Italian girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis.

'It seems odd since I've only met Berlusconi once and that was in an attempt to get aid into Darfur,' says George, 49.

'The list includes several personalities as well as cabinet ministers,' a source on Berlusconi's defence team tells the Daily Mail.

'They will all testify and prove that the Prime Minister is innocent of the ludicrous allegations made against him.'

The trial centres around Berlusconi's alleged sex parties and in particular Moroccan belly dancer Karima El Mahroug, 18, who claims she was paid for sex by the political leader when she was 17.

Karima also says she had sex with Cristiano but felt mistreated by him - a claim he angrily dismisses as 'totally false'.

'I did not even go to Milan, a fact that can be easily proven,' he says.

A judge will now decide if Cristiano, George, and the other listed people are relevant enough to officially testify.
