Justin Bieber will appear in a PSA about 'cyber-responsibility' that will be played in Nassau County schools.Tween sensation Justin Bieber will appear in a Nassau County public service announcement on internet responsibility as part of a plea deal for causing a riot in a Garden City mall.
The star's record label, Island Def Jam Record Music Group, pleaded guilty Friday to violating Nassau County safety ordinances in 2009 when thousands of eager Bieber fans stormed Roosevelt Field mall.
As more than 3,000 fans created a "dangerous situation" there, cops asked Bieber manager Scott "Scooter" Braun to take down a Tweet encouraging fans to show up and instead that Tweet the event had been cancelled, charged Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice.
He refused and locked others out of Bieber's official Twitter account by changing the password, prosecutors said. Braun was arrested on charges of reckless endangerment and criminal nuisance months after the event.
As part of the plea deal, Bieber will appear in a PSA about "cyber-responsibility" that will be played in Nassau County schools. Rice has editorial control of the PSA, but production costs will be covered by the record company.
"Mr. Braun created a dangerous safety situation using Twitter," Rice said in a statement. "This is a unique opportunity to use the internet, social media, and Justin Bieber's star power to help make our communities safer."
The record company also agreed to pay Nassau County $8,000 to cover costs that cops and fire fighters incurred because of the "poor planning and execution of the event."
