Soulful singer Adele looks chic at the Brit Awards 2011
Adele's dad Mark Evans admits he let his daughter down with his heavy drinking when she was young.
Chart-topper Adele Adkins, 22, has had a difficult relationship with her father since his three-year battle with alcoholism which started in 1999.
?I was not there for my daughter when I should have been and I have regretted that every second of every day,' says Mark, 47.
?I was putting away two litres of vodka and seven or eight pints of Stella every day.
?I was deeply ashamed of what I'd become and I knew the kindest thing I could do for Adele was to make sure she never saw me in that state.'
In fact Mark, who divorced Adele's mother when his daughter was just three, feels so guilty about his past behaviour that he can't bear to hear Adele sing.
?I've never even been to one of her shows or even listened to her music very much,' he tells The Sun.
?I watched some of her performance at the Brits. But even then I had to walk out of the room halfway through. I couldn't bear the memories it brought up.'
