American Idol Elimination: Did the Double Whammy Take a Favorite Down?

Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.

Sure, a save is sweet and all, but that meant two had to be sacrificed on tonight's American Idol.

Casey Abrams benefited last week from the judges' belief that the competition wasn't ready to move on without him...but what if the voters begged to differ last night?!

More than 55 million votes were cast?that's 25 million more than last week and a record for this stage in the competition?in the hopes that the right nine would make it through the gauntlet Thursday.

Did the judges save Casey for nothing last week?

MORE: Idol contestants flee their haunted mansion

Nope! He sailed on through, with Ryan Seacrest telling him, "If you knew how many [votes] you got, you'd be very proud."

Instead, it was the end of the road for 16-year-old Thia Megia and 26-year-old Naima Adedapo?an end we admittedly saw coming a mile away.

Thia may have had her best showing of the season so far with "Daniel," but it was too little, too late on Elton John night, which was full of strong performances. And Naima's ouster was even less shocking, especially when you factor in the silly accent she affected for her reggae adaptation of "I'm Still Standing."

Sadly, she sounded better on her duet with Jacob Lusk tonight on Ashford & Simpson's "Solid" than she has since the live performances began.

But, boy, they aren't kidding when they tell you not to ever assume that your favorites are safe!

Paul McDonald slipped through the cracks and into the bottom three this week after underwhelming with "Rocket Man." So, to all you Paul fans out there, don't turn your back on the sleepy voiced cutie next week if you want him to stick around!

The 26-year-old seemed more than a bit thrown when Ryan revealed that he, and not Stefano Langone, was joining Naima and Thia in the bottom three. But he survives to wiggle his way through another pop song next week.

Michael Bubl Marries His Hot Argentinean Sweetheart in Small Ceremony

Michael Bublmay have had a false start with Emily Blunt, but this time he followed through.

The Canadian crooner tied the knot with his fiance of more than a year,Argentinean actressLuisana Loreley Lopilato, in a quiet ceremony that went down today, the singer's rep confirms to E! News.

Here's what we know...

MORE: Who was rude enough to say they don't want to work withBubl?

The incredibly good-looking duo, who havebeen dating since November 2008 after meeting at a party following one of his concerts in her Argentinean hometown, had a simple civil ceremony in downtown Buenos Aires earlier today.

The bride, who is famous in her home country for being a sitcom star, bucked tradition, wearing a violet dress and silver heels for the nuptials instead of a flowing white gown. The Grammy winner himself looked sharp, and was all smiles, in a dapper gray suit.

After exiting the small ceremony, the pair posed for a mob of waiting fans and Lopilato tossed her bouquet of purple orchids into the crowd.

No word yet on if the couple plans on taking some time off for a honeymoon. They're still planning on having another wedding ceremony next month?a big bash to take place at a mansion outside the city for 300 guests.

Bubl proposed to the beauty last November in front of her family in Argentina. The new bride currently stars in a popular South American soap opera and was tapped by Bubl to star in his video for "Haven't Met You Yet."

Bubl was once engaged to singer-actressDebbie Timuss, but the pair split in 2005. He and Blunt dated for two years beforecalling it quitsin 2008.

Courtney Cachet: The New Bal Harbour: Young, Hip and Fabulous

Bal Harbour, Florida. That little one square mile village in Greater Miami has always been where one went to buy a luxury item, like Gucci, Hermes or Dior. It was a luxury shopping destination and that was pretty much it. As a teenager I remember walking around there and hoping I would grow up to be just like those ladies with all the shopping bags, except they were so old! It had the reputation of being a place where wealthy people from the northeast went to grow old, decorate their condos with conch shells and shop till they dropped... hopefully, figuratively and not literally.

But, times have been a changing all over and Bal Harbour has been quite skillful at keeping up with the trend, if not ahead of the curve. The Bal Harbour I visited last weekend still possesses all it's aspirational fabulousness but with hot, young crowds, tons of cultural activities and practically no crime. Really? Yes, really.

We spent our first night at what I think is South Florida's best kept secret (until now!). it was a fabulous boutique hotel called, Quarzo. I was expecting a small suite, because that's what most suites are, right? Well, not here amigo. At Quarzo, you can get a spacious, modern and clean 2/2 with walk in closets. There was also a brand new modern kitchen and dining room. For families, this is awesome since parents need a never ending supply of juice boxes, goldfish and um, wine. Makes it much more affordable when you don't have to order from room service. In high season, the rate was just $399. The staff was friendly and helpful and charming. There is a small pool, a hip sun bathing area facing the intracoastal that was a great spot for watching boats go by at sunset. I felt like I was in my chic, Miami apartment and not a hotel. Total steal.

We also stayed in The ONE Bal Harbour resort & Spa, which is directly on the ocean. I wanted to stay here because as a designer, I heard I would love this property. I also wanted to check out their $4 million art collection. It was far more sophisticated and elegant than I had expected. It was glam, luxe and worth every penny they charge. The lobby was filled with well-heeled New Yorkers, Latin American gaziillionaires and no shortage of the de rigueur beautiful people. The valet area had more than a peppering of Bentleys, Ferraris and Maseratis. Seriously, if you were in a BMW, you were slumming it. Recession? What recession? It made me feel like we were back in freewheeling and big money spending 2004. I loved it. The rooms are exquisite, the property is pristine and if you need a little pampering from all that shopping at the Bal Harbour Shops, they boast a 10,000 square foot spa. One of my favorite things was our room had a view of the ocean and a view of the city. Also, the beach is more powder like than it is in South Beach. If you're looking for bikini contests, jello shots or reggaeton blaring from radios, this is not your outpost. Whew! They have a constant calendar of luxe packages, like driving a Jaguar for the day, with lunch at Morimoto, take a yacht to the Sony Ericsson Open or have a driver take you to the International Polo Championship in Palm Beach. I found these little touches a real standout here. They clearly know how to cater to their guests. When I was there, the village was hosting an outdoor movie night on the beach. Totally cool and great for just chilling with your family. Who else does that?

For dining, there are a few great restaurants right there in Bal Harbour like Carpaccio and La Goulue. Great food and even better people watching. It's the stuff people watching dreams are made of..gorgeous models, ladies who lunch with really weird plastic surgery and Europeans with ridiculously killer wardrobes. I love it, I could sit there all day if it was cloudy out.

When you wish to venture beyond Bal Harbour, make sure you check out Midtown area and have dinner at Sugarcane Raw Bar. It's really worth the trip, if not solely for the torrejas. Trust me. South Beach is just about a ten minute drive, should you want to get a little more action. There was amazing tennis all weekend in Key Biscayne, as well. Aside from that, I saw no reason to leave. We came to Miami to relax, sunbathe, shop and eat well. And oh honey, how we did.

In unapologetic, glamourous, Bal Harbour style.

XO
Courtney

Jennifer Lopez: Why We Saved Casey Abrams on "Idol"

The decision to save American Idol's Casey Abrams from elimination sure was a polarizing one, but judge Jennifer Lopez insists it was the right move.

The 41-year-old dished this on Ryan Seacrest 's radio show on Wednesday (March 30), "We knew that it was kind of a radical decision because it was so early in the season, but to be quite honest...that is one decision that I haven't lost one ounce of sleep over."

When J.Lo and fellow judges Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson convened after America voted Abrams into the bottom two, the verdict was clear-cut,"[Casey] is one of our most dynamic performers. He's so interesting and so talented. I know it's crazy, but we had to do it!"

Even with the risks ? the judges are now out of saves for the rest of the season and Lopez says the timing was perfect,"I feel really good about that, too. Now, it's up to America. I really feel we've put 11 amazing contestants in front of them and now it's [a question of] who they're favorite is, who's going to be their American Idol. I feel really good about putting that in their hands."

Cristiano Ronaldo 'may be called as a defence witness' in Silvio Berlusconi's sex trial

Cristiano Ronaldo and George Clooney on potential witness list

Cristiano Ronaldo | Celebrities | Pictures | Photos | Now Magazine

Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly takes home 23.9m a year

Real Madrid footballer Cristiano Ronaldo could be summoned to give evidence in Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's 'bunga bunga' sex trial.

Cristiano, 26, who's the 2nd highest paid soccer player in the world, is one of 78 people named as potential defence witnesses in the case.

George Clooney is also on the list, as is his Italian girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis.

'It seems odd since I've only met Berlusconi once and that was in an attempt to get aid into Darfur,' says George, 49.

'The list includes several personalities as well as cabinet ministers,' a source on Berlusconi's defence team tells the Daily Mail.

'They will all testify and prove that the Prime Minister is innocent of the ludicrous allegations made against him.'

The trial centres around Berlusconi's alleged sex parties and in particular Moroccan belly dancer Karima El Mahroug, 18, who claims she was paid for sex by the political leader when she was 17.

Karima also says she had sex with Cristiano but felt mistreated by him - a claim he angrily dismisses as 'totally false'.

'I did not even go to Milan, a fact that can be easily proven,' he says.

A judge will now decide if Cristiano, George, and the other listed people are relevant enough to officially testify.

Kia Makarechi: Academia: James Franco's Best Work of Performance Art

No one can call James Franco unambitious. From attending six schools to continuing to film movies and TV, to working sporadically as a performance-artist, to teaching one course on film and collaborating on another class on himself (yes, himself), Franco is a man of many, many parts.

Breadth of talent is certainly impressive, but doing a million things is not the same as doing a million things well. This is like calling someone who knows just a few words in many languages "multilingual." And for this, there are no better examples than James Franco's careers.

It all started with the Green Goblin's return to UCLA.

Consider this from a drooling GQ profile from September 2008:

'I think I broke the record for the number of units I'm taking this quarter,' he says. The standard limit is nineteen, though students sometimes manage to take a few more. Twenty-three, say, or twenty-four. Franco is taking sixty-two.

What does that really mean? Classes in the humanities at UCLA generally vary from three to five units. Let's average it at four. That would have left Franco with about 15-16 courses, while the "average student" was only allowed to take about four. And while courses vary in hours per week from one to five (between discussions and lectures), let's go with an average of three hours a week per class (on the low side). That would leave him with a low-balled average of 45 hours per week of pure, on-campus class time.

And finals? Many courses have three-hour finals scheduled into set blocks that most undergrads wouldn't dream of toying with. Clearly some exceptions were made for the future performance artist, because even if we, again, underestimate his finals week load, he must have gone through about 25-30 hours of testing, not to mention any essay writing.

UCLA Magazine noted that Franco was able to carry that workload while simultaneously working on movies. And, for good measure, he maintained a GPA above 3.5.

And he wrote a novel for his honors thesis.

Really?

After finishing his UCLA degree, Franco went on to simultaneously enroll in three master's programs: Columbia's M.FA., Brooklyn College for creative writing, and NYU's Tisch School of the Arts for directing (where he earned a D in acting, not for want of good work but for poor attendance -- he happened to be filming a movie).

He's now at Yale studying for a Ph.D. in English, enrolled at the Rhode Island School of Design, Warren Wilson College for poetry, teaching a class at Tisch on film and collaborating on a course at Columbia College Hollywood on... himself.

He's also reportedly returning to NYU in May for a second MFA in film editing (despite that D at Tisch).

The question isn't so much "Is James Franco really that smart?" He very well may be. But it's clear that regardless of the amount of effort he actually seems to be putting into his academic and literary pursuits, it's patently obvious that were it not for his acting and modeling career, he could not simultaneously enroll in so many programs on so many prestigious campuses.

So how is the work? The Oscars broadcast he and Anne Hathaway helmed was ranked among the worst in the Academy's history, his solo art show was and his short story published in Esquire was pretty widely panned.

Really, here's a taste:

Joe smokes. His window is all the way down, and he breathes his smoke out the black gaping gap.

Later:

"Fuck you."

"Fuck you, Joe, you're an idiot."

"You're an idiot."

"I know," I say. And I am. I am friends with a slug, and my other friends are pigs and wolves. I never make friends with nice things, just the shit.

Fellow Yale Ph.D. student Craig Fehrman plucked another gem from Palo Alto, the Scribner collection of his stories:

In "American History," another one of Palo Alto's better stories, a tough black guy tells someone to "break off this motherfucking honky." Here's Franco's gloss on this: "It came out of his cruel face like a rocky stream." What does that even mean? Are the words the rocks or the water? And what does that make the face?

Ferhman notes that in a blurb for Palo Alto, Franco's Columbia fiction prof Ben Marcus gushes about his pupil's "intense artistry," and goes on to compare him to Kathy Acker. What did Marcus have to say about Jonathan Franzen? Ferhman rightly includes that Marcus derides the author of The Corrections and Freedom as "creating a performance that was sometimes more compelling than his own fiction."

Franco's celebrity is clearly not beside the point. It is the point.

It's tempting to gloss everything Franco is doing as some postmodern exercise in performance, as though he's consciously operating on some Baudrillardian level of hyperreality. Universities and colleges in different states, movies and TV shows, novels, short stories, museum exhibits -- why not? If Andy Warhol can urinate on a canvas and show it in a museum, clearly Franco should be able to get away with hosting a nationally televised award's show with that "Damn right I don't give a damn" smirk.

But there's a real problem with what New York Magazine calls "The Franco Project": By accepting Franco into their universities and publishing houses with such gusto, these institutions create a mockery of themselves. Though it's fine for UCLA to blush about the astounding course-load of its dropout turned megawatt literary creation, many close to the campus were stung not only by the school's decision to offer Franco the commencement speech (having a fellow student impart wisdom on you doesn't seem that appealing, it seems) and his last-minute cancellation, but also by his gleeful parody of the incident on Funny or Die.

And though it's cute for Franco to fist-pump and name-check NYU at the Oscars, it's less charming when the nationally-respected university offers a graduate-level teaching gig to someone who is clearly too busy to provide a meaningful academic experience (he'll be skyping into the Columbia College Hollywood class on himself "depending on his schedule").

The joke, it seems, is on them.

It's a Boy For Elizabeth Banks!

Elizabeth Banks and husband Max Handelman are now the proud parents of a beautiful boy named Felix, who was born via gestational surrogate.

"I have been very fortunate in life both professionally and personally," the 30 Rock star, 37, wrote on her website in a post announcing the birth.

"The one true hurdle I've faced in life is that I have a broken belly," she added.

"After years of trying to get pregnant, exploring the range of fertility treatments, all unsuccessful, our journey led us to gestational surrogacy."

E-Banks

"From that came two miracles. The first was meeting our carrier and her husband who were truly humbling in their decency and generosity."

"The second miracle was the birth of our baby boy, Felix Handelman."

"Felix means 'happy' and 'lucky' in Latin. And true to his name, Felix is a very happy baby and a blessing on our life," she concludes.

Vanessa Hudgens: "Sucker Punch" UK Premiere

Stepping out for one of the biggest night?s surrounding their film's release, the ladies of ?Sucker Punch? were all on-hand at the UK film premiere in London, England on Wednesday (March 30).

Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, Carla Gugino, Emily Browning all posed for pictures on the red carpet before heading inside Vue Cinema at Leicester Square for the big event.

As for the plotline, the film revolves around institutionalized Baby Doll (Emily Browning) who retreats into her imagination to survive, fighting video game-style battles in places ranging from temples to Notre Dame cathedral.

While director Zack Snyder?s 2006 film ?300? relied on male six-packs for visual interest, Sucker Punch majors on cleavage with Baby Doll?s fellow asylum inmates Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish), Rocket (Jena Malone), Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens) and Amber (Jamie Chung) all duly obliging their director?s eye for a curve.

Porn Star Wants To Work For Sheen

3 minutes ago | WENN | See recent WENN news

Charlie Sheen is set to add another porn star to his roster of "goddesses" - adult actress Isis Taylor is on the shortlist to win a work placement with the actor.

The former Two and a Half Men star has advertised an eight-week internship for a fan to help manage and promote his Twitter.com blog this summer.

And one applicant has a distinct advantage over the rest - Taylor has a porn movie past, similar to Sheen's live-in girlfriend Bree Olson, who he has dubbed one of his "goddesses".

In a post on her Twitter.com blog, Taylor writes, "Made to the second round #winning!... People asking if I'm ready to be Charlie Sheen intern... Hell yeah I am!"

On Wednesday it emerged reports of a student from Belfast, Northern Ireland having been offered the job were a hoax.

Kendra Wilkinson to Dancing With the Stars Judges: Stop Talking About My Boobs!

Listen up, Dancing With the Stars judges.

Kendra Wilkinson-Baskett may have gotten her start at the Playboy Mansion, but that doesn't mean she wants to be known for her boobs in the ballroom!

Read on for what the E! reality star exclusively told us during our weekly chat?everything from her famous knockers, what's causing her so much pain in practice and where she plans on putting that mirror-ball trophy if she wins the whole dang thing...

READ: DWTS episode recap!

Are you nervous about being voted off first tonight?
I'm definitely not nervous about the first elimination. I have faith that my fans voted me through, and I feel like I did a little bit better than a couple people [laughs].

Len Goodman made a comment about your boobs during judging. Do they get in the way of your dancing?
Absolutely not. I think my boobs are the perfect size. I don't understand how he's commenting on my boobs and not Wendy [Williams]'s boobs or Kirstie [Alley]'s. We all have big boobs! That's just the way it goes. I think he's just being funny, and I even saw him on Jimmy Kimmel last night talking about my boobs again. I'm like, "What is it about my boobs?" Just because I'm a Playboy girl they have to use my boobs as their little attack weapon thing.

Your pals Hugh Hefner and Holly Madison have both been in the audience cheering you on. How does that feel?
It feels good. It's nice of them to come and support me. It's awesome. It makes me feel good. Makes me feel like they're all still there for me.

Being a self-proclaimed tomboy, you've played a lot of sports. Would you say dancing is harder?
I don't really work on posture in sports, you kind of have to be bent a little bit more bent...With dancing, you have to hold your spine up straight. It's something I've never in my life done before. And having a baby now, it's definitely taken a toll on my back. My back is in so much pain after having the baby; it's always been.

Is your back what's causing you the most pain?
Yeah, my back is definitely the hardest. My back is in so much pain, but I'm just trying my hardest to just stay calm and relaxed during the dances.

Lastly, if you do make it all the way to the end and win, where would you put the mirror-ball trophy?
I think I'd put it in my son's room because it'd be because of him that I survived and got through it and everything. Or we just bought a new house, so we'd have our own room for it. We'd have like a memorabilia room...Or that will be our Christmas tree every year!

Marc Malkin is on vacation.

Zsa Zsa Gabor rushed to hospital

Zsa Zsa Gabor has been rushed to hospital after she began coughing up blood at her Beverly Hills mansion and became unable to breathe.

Zsa Zsa Gabor has been rushed to hospital.

The 94-year-old screen legend - who has suffered from a string of health problems in recent months - was transported away from her Beverly Hills mansion after she began coughing up blood and became unable to breathe.

Zsa Zsa's ninth husband Prince Frederic von Anhalt has admitted despite the star having been rushed to hospital on numerous occasions in the past few months alone, he is "really worried" this time could be the last.

He told TMZ: "She could hardly breathe. I'm really worried we may lose her this time."

She could hardly breathe. I'm really worried we may lose her this time.

Just last week, Zsa Zsa was taken to the UCLA Medical Center after becoming "hysterical" and seeing her blood pressure go "through the roof" when she learned her close friend Dame Elizabeth Taylor had died.

Prince Frederic explained at the time: "Zsa Zsa said celebrities go in threes and I'm next."

The star of stage and screen was only released from hospital at the beginning this month after struggling with an infection in her left leg.

While doctors advised she should have the limb amputated - just a month after she lost part of her right leg - she refused the operation, leaving her with just a 50-50 chance of surviving for another year.

Her husband said recently: "We don't expect her to get better. She will be in bed for the rest of her life."

Zsa Zsa's health problems stem from her falling out of bed and breaking her hip last July.

Home price declines deepen in major US markets

NEW YORK - Damage from the housing bust is spreading to areas once thought to be immune.

In at least 14 major U.S. metro areas, prices have fallen to 2003 levels - when the housing bubble was just starting to inflate. Prices will likely drop further this year, making many people reluctant to buy or sell. That would push down sales and prices more.

The depressed housing industry is slowing an economy that has shown strength elsewhere. And it's starting to hurt those who bought years before the housing boom began. In some cities, people who have paid their mortgages for a decade have little or no home equity.

Prices have tumbled in familiar troubled spots, such as Las Vegas, Cleveland and Detroit. But they're also at or near 10-year lows in Denver, Atlanta, Chicago and Minneapolis - cities that weren't as swept up in the housing boom and bust.

"It's been tough on the lower class but it's filtering up," said Paul Dales, senior U.S. economist with Capital Economics. "It may be only a matter of time before it hits the wealthy."

Just about the only major market weathering the second wave of the housing downturn is Washington. Home prices there have risen 11 percent in the past two years.

Prices fell from December to January in all but one of the 20 cities tracked by the Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller home price index. The index, a gauge of national home prices, dipped for the sixth straight month. Prices in 11 of the cities are at their lowest point since the housing

bubble burst.

The report measures prices relative to those in January 2000. For each of the 20 metro areas it studies, it provides an updated three-month average price.

"The housing market recession is not yet over, and none of the statistics are indicating any form of sustained recovery," said David M. Blitzer, chairman of the Index Committee at Standard & Poor's.

Weak home sales and falling prices are imposing a heavy burden on the economy, which has gained strength from higher consumer spending. Applications for unemployment benefits are at pre-recession lows. Manufacturing activity is growing at its fastest rate in seven years.

By contrast, sales of previously occupied homes are coming off the worst year in more than a decade. And new homes are selling at the slowest pace on records dating back to 1963.

In part, the weakening prices show how much a home-buying tax credit stimulated sales in late 2009 and early 2010. Once those tax credits expired in April, many markets began a decline that shows no sign of stopping. Some economists say the tax credits merely postponed the bottoming out that's occurring now.

Millions of foreclosures and short sales are largely to blame. Short sales occur when lenders let homeowners sell for less than they owe on their mortgage. These cut-rate sales have left a glut of discounted properties in many markets. Prices won't stop falling until they are cleared.

Even though foreclosures and short sales have created a glut of homes for sale, many of them are undesirable. The supply of homes that people actually want to buy - and can afford to - is much narrower.

"Some people who want to buy don't have the time, desire or energy to fix up a foreclosure, so they don't buy them," said Ron Shuffield, president of Esslinger-Wooten-Maxwell Realtors Inc. in Miami, where foreclosures or short sales make up two-thirds of the homes sold.

In many cases, a standoff has developed between buyers and sellers. Potential sellers are

holding off putting their homes on the market, fearing they won't come close to getting their asking price. Buyers, seeing prices fall, are holding out for a steal.

"Buyers are coming in with low offers, and sellers are bristling at lowering their listing price," said J. Philip Faranda, who runs his own real estate firm in Westchester County, N.Y. "Sellers believe they already lost money with their asking price so they don't want to cut the price. They're frustrated."

The supply of homes for sale in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area has plummeted 26 percent over the past year, according to the Minneapolis Area Association of Realtors. And those still being sold now fetch an average of just 88 percent of the listing prices.

The Twin Cities have had price declines of 11 percent over the past six months. That's the worst among cities tracked by the home price index.

Minneapolis enjoys a strong local economy and low unemployment. But it's been beset by foreclosures and skittish home-buyers.

"We have a lot of people that own their own home, that don't have mortgages," said Brad Fisher, sales manager of Edina Realty in Minneapolis. "A lot of these people are going to hang tight and not put their foot back in the market until they feel confident."

That feeling is shared by many homeowners. More than 90 percent of homeowners now say it's a bad time to sell their home, according to a consumer confidence survey done by Reuters/University of Michigan.

Over the past year, prices for the most affordable homes have fallen by 7.5 percent, compared with a 5 percent drop for middle-tier homes and a 2.3 percent decline for the most expensive properties, according to data analyzed by Capital Economics.

Terence Avella waited three years to find a seller for his three-bedroom ranch in Chappaqua, N.Y. He bought it in 2006 for $530,000 - 18 percent less than the listing price of $650,000.

Avella, 33, won't disclose the selling price since the deal is still under contract. But it's a lot less than what he paid plus the $100,000 in improvements he's made.

"At the time, I thought it was a good deal," he said. "Now, I'm eating it."

Final Word: New face of parenting is creepy

By Craig Wilson, USA TODAY

Growing up, I thought my parents were just fine. They took good care of me, fed me, taught me some life lessons, disciplined me, then sent me on my way.

  • By Suzy Parker, USA TODAY

By Suzy Parker, USA TODAY

I had one mother and one father, and that seemed quite enough at the time. On occasion it even seemed too much.

My father, for instance, would leave a list on the kitchen table most Saturday mornings. Chores for the day. This began at an early age. Like 5. Never too early to start helping out around the house, he'd say. I did not agree.

My mother's only demand was that I pick up my room. The good news was she didn't seem to really care if I did or not. We got along just fine. Nothing clingy.

But now along comes a man in California who is promoting what he calls Parent Dolls.

Here's how they work: You take a photo of your face, slap it on the head of a plush doll, record a message inside the doll's tummy, and your child carries you around all day while you're away. (It's up to you what you want to say to your child. You have eight minutes to say it.)

Have you ever heard of anything so perverse? Me either.

Good parents go away for periods of time. Like to work. Like to the grocery store. Like to Las Vegas.

As a kid, I liked to think of their time away as my downtime. And when they returned and asked if everything was fine, I'd always say, "Better than fine." This always seemed to amuse them.

As for my father's face on a doll's head, I can't imagine. The word "creepy" comes to mind. I'd have fled.

And what would he be telling me from the doll's tummy? Get your chores done? I would have pushed that voice button but once.

The inventors of Parent Dolls mean well, I'm sure. They say the child will bond even more with the parent if the "doll" is talking to them all day, encouraging them, comforting them.

I have a better idea: Uncle Dolls.

Much to my sister-in-law's chagrin, I taught my niece and nephews dozens of things she and my brother never did. And we're not just talking sex here, although that did come up. We're talking bathroom humor. Bad dining habits. Antisocial behavior. Things uncles know all about.

They're too old for an Uncle Doll now, but what fun it would have been to record that eight-minute message 25 years ago. "Today we're going to talk about the joys of the whoopee cushion ..."

I had to do next best thing. I told them directly. Old-fashioned, yes. But it worked perfectly.

Ochocinco -- Happy to Ride the Bench

Chad Ochocinco better not give up his day job -- because Kansas City's soccer team thinks he's only good enough to be a backup player ... for now.

0329_ochocinco_BN_TMZ

Sporting Kansas City of the MLS announced today the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver will be on their reserve team -- which means he CAN train with the team and hang in the locker room ... but does NOT get paid.

Ocho seemed happy about the news ... posting, "Totally awesome ILuvKC" on his Twitter.

At least it'll give him a reason to stay in shape during that damn NFL lockout.

A-Rod's Property ... Down the Drain

After years of neglect, it looks like the Florida apartment complex owned by A-Rod is starting to shape up ... tenants say thanks to a little pressure from TMZ.

0329_a_rod_home_launch_EX
City officials have finally taken action, ordering some quick changes in the apartment complex -- in particular, the gnarly pool that started to resemble the La Brea Tar Pits.

We got pics of the progress -- one of the pools has now been drained and the other is still a work in progress.

There have been numerous other complaints from tenants, including holes in walls, rusty pipes, and overflowing trash. Several tenants say everyone responsible seemed to step it up after we posted the story last week.

Everybody in the pool -- well, not just yet.

'Idol' airplay: Kelly Clarkson, Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson and more

Mar 28, 2011

The top two tracks on this week's American Idol airplay chart -- Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson's Don't You Wanna Stay and Daughtry's September -- also sit in the No. 2 positions on their respective format charts. Don't You Wanna Stay is the No. 2 hit on USA TODAY's Country chart, while September keeps the second spot it has held on the Hot AC chart for several weeks.

The Urban AC chart has two Idol hits -- Jennifer Hudson's Where You At the the Charlie Wilson single I Wanna Be Your Man that features Fantasia. Where You At is also on the Urban chart.

Stronger, the lead single from Mandisa's forthcoming What If We Were Real album, hits the Idol airplay top 20 this week, and it climbs to No. 6 on the Christian AC charts. It's shaping up to be one of the biggest Christian-radio hits to come from an Idol act. Jason Castro's You Are and Chris Sligh's One also are in the Christian AC top 40.

Jennifer Lopez's On the Floor makes the top 20 at Top 40 and is at No. 24 on the Rhythmic chart.

NEW YORK -- Beyonce will no longer be managed by her father, Mathew Knowles.

Beyonce's publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, told The Associated Press in a statement Monday that the Grammy-winning singer and her father have parted ways "on a business level."

Knowles has managed his daughter since she debuted as a teen in the multiplatinum-selling group Destiny's Child in the late 1990s and throughout her superstar career as a solo artist.

Beyonce says in the statement that she is grateful for the role her father has had in her career.

She adds that "he is my father for life and I love my dad dearly."
