Even if Will Ferrell doesn't join "The Office" as a permanent castmember, his stint as a Dunder Mifflin branch manager already seems to have made an impact on the cast. Rainn Wilson confirmed the nature of Ferrell's performance in the NBC series, which will soon see its figurehead, Steve Carell, depart, but Wilson also seemed a little starstruck.
"We've been doing a ton with Will Ferrell, and it is so cool," Wilson told MTV News on Saturday night at the Independent Spirit Awards. "I just keep thinking, 'I'm acting with Will Ferrell! This is so awesome!' And he's the nicest guy: just a sweetheart and so much fun."
Carell will leave a Michael Scott-sized hole when he exits the show at the end of the season, and Ferrell wanted to be a part of his "Anchorman" co-star's final performances so much that he requested the part himself. His four-episode arc won't install his character as the new man in charge, but it will showcase an epic fail on Scott's part as Ferrell's character asserts himself.
"He is the new manager that Michael Scott has brought in to replace him, but we kind of swiftly realize that that's a terrible idea. Terrible," Wilson said.
For now, exactly what Ferrell has been doing to warrant such reviews and possibly make Michael Scott look like a good management choice by comparison remains largely a mystery. More guest stars are expected to show up as Carell prepares to dedicate more of his life to making films, but it will be hard for anyone to stand toe-to-toe with Ferrell's comedic talents.
Ferrell's effect on Wilson, meanwhile, should at least be potent enough to carry Wilson's character (Dwight) well into the post-Scott era, however long that turns out to be. Whether a new actor emerges to take control of the company or one of the show's other stars rises to the position, having the man who played Ron Burgundy in the same room as Carell for a while seems to be good for morale.
Who do you think should play Michael Scott's replacement? Tell us below!

The 'Gossip Girl' star gets her party on with 'Front Cut,' a new track that just hit the Internet.

For a while there it seemed like Leighton Meester was only going to be "Country Strong," but now she's again embracing her dance-club music roots on a new track. On Tuesday, a new Meester tune titled "Front Cut" hit the Web.
The "Gossip Girl" star's track, a certain club banger that could easily be confused with any song in Ke$ha's dance-heavy discography, features the writing, production and vocal talents of Clinton Sparks.
"I'm too fly to be all up in this line, boy/ I should get a front cut/ I should get a front cut," Meester proclaims in the opening lines of the song — which is all about getting key access to a slamming party — before some killer keyboards and heavy beats kick in. She goes on to rap/sing, "You see me coming through/ Not just me, my girlfriends too/ You know what we came to do/ That's why we in front of you."
Meester really displays her swagga on the song's bridge, when she goes on to sing, "Don't tell me I gotta wait in the line/ I said f--- the front door, I should go in through the side/ Why don't you/ Lift up that rope to let through/ All these girls in my crew / Give me a drink or a few/ I mean a bottle or two/ We've been out here too damn long / And I hear Clint Sparks playin' my song/ Got my diamond and my Louboutins on/ Ya better hurry up or I'll be gone/ Don't tell me I gotta wait in no line/ 'Cause there's plenty of other clubs that want me inside."
With no official release date for the track or any definite plans for an album release, it seems that for now Meester fans will have to just enjoy the song online. The singer/actress' pop-star career has been long-simmering, to say the least. She was expected to drop an album in 2010, but that never happened.
In 2009, she appeared on Cobra Starship's "Good Girls Go Bad," then she hooked up with Robin Thicke on the song "Somebody to Love."
So what do you think of Meester's new club banger? Share your opinions in the comments.

While Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber were both nominated, they didn't get as much love as some expected.
By Gil Kaufman

You hear it all the time: "I'm just thankful to be nominated." It's the gracious and polite thing to say, and artists who lose out on major awards always feel compelled to offer it up.
But what if you never even get nominated?
Every year, there are head-slapping omissions from the roster of nominees at the big awards-fests (Christopher Nolan at the Oscars, anyone?), and this year's 53rd annual Grammy Awards (which take place February 13) are no exception.
In the night's biggest category, Album of the Year, there was plenty of griping from critics about the inclusion of Katy Perry's Teenage Dream, which many considered too lightweight for the night's top prize. But there was also a bit of talk about Justin Bieber's smash My World 2.0 not making it into the mix in the major categories, even if Bieber can lick his wounds with his Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album love.
Though the rules about the Best New Artist category have since been changed to avoid such a problem in the future, Lady Gaga has been the victim of Grammy snubs before. She earned six nominations this year, including coveted Album of the Year for The Fame Monster, but it was mystifying that her huge hit, "Bad Romance," didn't get any Record or Song of the Year nominations.
What gives?
"They want her for ratings, but I think the Grammys are still a bit freaked out by Gaga," said Entertainment Weekly music writer Leah Greenblatt. "There were so many shenanigans about her not being nominated for Best New Artist that I think the Grammys got shamed over that. It's possible they would try to make it up to her by showering her with nominations and I could see her win in major categories [in the future], but I think they're not quite ready for her." That could, of course, change next year when Gaga's Born This Way is in the running.
Another diva used to serious Grammy love, Alicia Keys, was totally shut out for her The Element of Freedom album. "It's interesting that Alicia Keys got nothing," she said. "Her and John Mayer are practically on the ballots every year whether they qualify for eligibility or not. And I think 'Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart' was one of the year's best singles." And reclusive Grammy bait Sade got a pair of notices for her singles "Soldier of Love" and "Babyfather" in the R&B categories but no chance at any of the big prizes. Greenblatt said she was surprised by both snubs, especially since Sade's Soldier of Love album was one of the top sellers of 2010 and because the enigmatic singer had been away for nearly a decade and came back in fine, mature form, the kind of story the Grammys love to honor.
There were some eyebrows raised over the single nomination for "American Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert, who had a solid and creatively rich hit album with his debut, For Your Entertainment, but just a single nod for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for "Whataya Want From Me."
With Perry strutting into a number of top categories thanks to her light-as-air pop confections, it was a wonder that another pop tart with huge digital sales and big chart hits (things the Recording Academy likes to see), Ke$ha, was completely shut out of the game. Greenblatt thought the Lambert dis might fall into the same Gaga territory, with the Academy being a bit freaked out by the singer's out-and-proud persona and over-the-top antics, but when it comes to Ke$ha, she said it's probably a different story. "She had a huge impact, but I think the Grammys think she might go away, and they've chosen not to legitimize her," she speculated.
Speaking of big sales, quite a few people commented on the fact that Train's smash "Hey, Soul Sister," the best-selling single of 2010, got just one notice for a little-heard live version in the Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group category.
A couple of well-respected hip-hop acts were also conspicuously absent from the nominations list, including Outkast's Big Boi, whose acclaimed Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty was left out of the Best Rap Album category, along with Rick Ross, whose Teflon Don got no love. "Rick Ross is the kind of artist made to be ignored by the Grammys," Greenblatt said. "He has a sensibility the Grammys will almost never come around to, no matter how beloved he is by rap fans."
But given that she thought Chico Dusty was one of the best albums of 2010, Greenblatt was stunned by the freeze-out of Big Boi, who has been showered with Grammy love in the past. "It's such an achievement, a fully realized album that feels like a real tapestry, a headphones album from someone whose skills are so singular ... [from] one of the most iconic and Grammy-approved hip-hop acts of all time."
Rihanna's Rated R was also eligible but got stiffed in the major categories, landing just a Best Dance Recording nod for "Only Girl (In the World)" for her single from last year's Loud and a number of notices for her work on Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie." And if you thought Kanye West got ripped off when My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy got blanked, don't worry: It wasn't eligible this year but is in the hunt for next year.
The one omission that seemed to make sense was the two small nominations for the kids from "Glee," who are up for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for their cover of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin' " and for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Glee: Vol. 1. Though they set cash registers ringing like crazy, it's no wonder that actors singing covers didn't garner attention at a show that ostensibly awards creativity. And no one seemed too shocked that Christina Aguilera's poorly received Bionic was ignored.
Who do you think got stiffed by the Grammys? Share your top snubs in the comments.

From the monkey on Bradley Cooper's back to Ed Helms' tribal face tattoo, we can't wait to hit this destination wedding.

Ed Helms, Bradley Cooper and Zack Galifianakis in "The Hangover Part II"
Photo: Warner Bros.
Todd Phillips promised and he delivered. Last week, the writer/director — who these days can't seem to make an R-rated comedy that doesn't do mega-business across the globe — assured MTV News that the teaser trailer for "Hangover Part II" would be popping up online this week.
And pop up it has. True to Phillips' words the footage is "truly a teaser," with almost no dialogue and little hint about the events surrounding what clearly turns an innocent destination wedding in Thailand into a life-altering disaster. We do, however, contest Phillips' speculation that the teaser "might end up frustrating more than solving questions." While questions are hardly solved, we couldn't be more pumped finally to feast our eyes on official footage from the Memorial Day weekend release. Here are our picks for the five coolest moments:
Hotel or Prison?
In "The Hangover," Bradley Cooper and his pals find their way into one of the chicest suites in Las Vegas. Their digs in Thailand, alas, look more like the confines of a prison — less "King and I" than "Brokedown Palace." There's no way that this was their original resort locale. It's anybody's guess how and why they end up in this dump.
Say Goodbye to That Security Deposit
This image is a direct homage to the post-party scene in "Hangover": After swilling what turned out to be roofie-infused booze, the friends awoke in their trashed Vegas suite, each one nursing a nuclear headache as a tiger roamed freely in the bathroom. This time around, the morning after takes place in a decidedly less glamorous environment and the big cat is replaced by an oversize cockroach.
The Wolf Pack is Back
In the original film, Zach Galifianakis proudly — and nonsensically — welcomed the crew into his wolf pack. Disaster ensued. This shot shows the gang back together again. Missing, interestingly, is Justin Bartha, who went missing in the first flick and whose absence in the new trailer seems to lend credence to the rumor that he'll once again disappear in "Part II."
Is This Kind of Nice?
The trailer's first piece of dialogue belongs to Galifianakis and it's, predictably, hilariously detached from what is clearly a seriously bad situation. Why else is a monkey wrapped around Cooper's neck? Why does Galifianakis look like a blind man shaved his noggin? And about Ed Helms' face ...
Mike Tyson, Trendsetter
Iron Mike's cameo in "Hangover" was one of the comedy's finest pleasures. And as we've seen from "Part II" photos, Helms somehow finds himself branded with Tyson's most infamous identifier: a tribal face tattoo. For a guy about to get married, that's just not a good look. As he says before hanging his head, "Oh god!"

Katy Perry not only glams up for the new issue of Elle, but she also gets real. The singer — who is gearing up for a big performance on this Sunday's Grammy Awards — dishes on diva behavior, discusses her personal life and even reveals how much she weighs in the fashion magazine's latest cover story.
"I feel like I'm at a point in my life right now where I could potentially stick around," Perry says about her outlook on being a pop star. "I don't feel like a diva, but I think diva is a great and powerful word in the sense of what Beyoncé makes it. And maybe I can't be Beyoncé, but maybe I can be Cyndi Lauper. I mean be like her, not be her. That would just be weird."
The singer also admits to having some ambitions outside of the entertainment world. "I think some people will die on the stage, and I'm not so sure I want to do that. Like, I want to have kids!" she explains. "I'm totally fine with saying that. I think some people are scared because they're worried it's going to ruin their career, but I want to live a full life."
That full life, these days, includes her hubby, Russell Brand, who she says is her perfect better half. "Everything clicked really fast. We kind of instantly got past all the surfacey stuff. And ever since then, there hasn't been a dull moment," she says. "We both needed balance, and we give that to each other. It wasn't about me taming him, which is what everyone always says — it was about timing."
Perry doesn't hold back at all, revealing details about her weight that very few celebrities seem willing to share with the world. "I was shaped like a square at one time. I was! I'm generally around 130 pounds, which is totally fine for me," she confesses. "But when I was a kid, I was the same height and weighed more like 145. And I had enormous boobs that I didn't know what to do with, so I wore minimizers, which were not cute. Those thick-ass straps! I got made fun of for the over-the-shoulder boulder holder ... and all I wanted was to look like Kate Moss. Little did I know ... that these things would come in handy someday."

'He has a major role in the younger generation to this music,' producer/DJ tells MTV News of his collaborator.
By Adam Stewart

It's no secret that 2010 was a pivotal year for electronic dance music here in the States. With deadmau5 and Swedish House Mafia becoming household names, the genre's momentum shows no signs of slowing down. Using a conduit of collaboration, artists such as deadmau5 (a.k.a. Joel Zimmerman) have paired up with various underground acts to further the rapid expansion of the genre.
Perhaps one of the most notable movers and shakers of the year is now-Grammy-Award-nominated producer and DJ Wolfgang Gartner, who recently sat down to chat with MTV News about deadmau5 and dance music's rise to the top.
"He has a major role in the younger generation to this music," Gartner says, "but there have been certain artists that have been instrumental in helping it cross over and reach the mainstream — which I think is a good thing. I think rap artists using dance beats is a great thing. I think it just brings more people towards this music that we all love."
Thanks to several key moments, such as deadmau5 taking the helm as house DJ (well, technically "House Artist") for the 2010 VMAs, dance music has been thrown into the forefront of America's youth, a key demographic for any genre.
"Everybody knows who he is now and he's kind of exposing the masses to dance music. These little five-, six- and seven-year-old kids latch on to this 'mau5head' logo — they get into the music and he's bringing this tiny young generation into this music that probably wouldn't be exposed to it."
Gartner certainly doesn't mind the exposure either. Unless you were living under a rock for the past six months, you probably heard one of this past summer's hottest anthems, "Animal Rights," a collaborative effort brought forth by deadmau5 and Gartner.
"It was interesting because I kind of had a preconceived notion about how he would be to work [with]," said Gartner. "I think our sounds are really similar, so I figured he would work in a similar way to me, but the way that he writes music is actually completely different to me. But he achieves kind of the same sound through a completely different process."
Recorded in deadmau5's favorite Los Angeles studio — that would be rocker Tommy Lee's House — "Animal Rights" is a thumping progressive house anthem that melds Wolfgang's unmistakable harmonics and funk riffs with the driving bass line and wobbly synths that make deadmau5 one of the unique forces in the dance music world.
"[Deadmau5] writes these rich complex chord progressions and he does it by drawing these little bars on a grid, which is just amazing that you can do that and get that result," Gartner goes on to say. "It just proves you don't have to be able to play keyboards to write amazing music."
The two sound pioneers never cease to stop pushing the limits on what they are able to produce. Using drastically difference production approaches, deadmau5 and Gartner had the ability to play off each other's strengths while recording the track.
"I'd say the biggest thing is that I play everything in on a keyboard, like even my drums," says Gartner. "I play everything in live and he draws it in with notes on a mouse, which blew me away because his music is very musical."
What do you think 2011 will hold for deadmau5 and Gartner? Let us know in the comments below!

Judge rules that camera will be allowed in the courtroom for manslaughter case.
By Gil Kaufman

For what promises to be one of the most bizarre and riveting legal proceedings in years, a Los Angeles judge ruled on Monday that a television camera will be allowed in the courtroom when Michael Jackson's doctor goes on trial for involuntary manslaughter.
Reuters reported that Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor, approved the presence of a camera in the trial of Dr. Conrad Murray as long as it does not interfere with the proceedings in the closely watched case.
The judge asked for the "absolute least-intrusive placement" of a TV camera in the courtroom, but blocked cameras from documenting jury selection.
Pastor also announced that he would bump up the opening date of the trail by four days to March 24, at which point jury selection will begin. Murray, who faces up to four years in prison if convicted, has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and the trial is expected to last around six weeks.
Cardiologist Murray was hired to be Jackson's personal physician in the run-up to the King of Pop's planned 50-date comeback series of shows at London's O2 arena in the summer of 2009. The doctor told police that he provided Jackson, 50, with sedatives and the surgical anesthetic propofol in order to combat the singer's chronic insomnia. He said he did so on the morning of June 25, 2009, when Jackson died of what a coroner deemed acute propofol poisoning.
TMZ reported on Tuesday (February 8) that Murray's lawyers plan to argue that Jackson was already in weak health before he died and that it's unfair to blame propofol for his passing. Unnamed sources close to the case told the gossip site that at the time of his death, Jackson's body was already failing him in part because concert promoter AEG Live had "driven [him] over the edge" with a rigorous rehearsal schedule for the shows.
Murray's lawyers reportedly plan to call witnesses to say that Jackson was not showing up for rehearsals and when he did he showed "clear signs" of frail health. They also reportedly plan to argue that it was Jackson who administered the final, fatal dose of propofol to himself while Murray was out of the room.

Lady Gaga performs at Madison Square Garden on Monday
Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage
NEW YORK — Lady Gaga took her Monster Ball home Monday night, hitting the Madison Square Garden stage for not only the second show of this leg of her tour, but also the first of two tapings for her forthcoming HBO special.
Check out photos from Lady Gaga's New York City show.
After a rousing set from the Scissor Sisters, the arena's lights dimmed and the crowd went crazy as the chugging beat of "Dance in the Dark" played, counting down Mother Monster's entrance.
"New York City, did you guys come to party tonight?" she asked as she appeared. "The Monster Ball will set you free."
In a sheer dress and nun's habit, Gaga performed "Love Game."
"My name is Lady Gaga, and I was born and raised in the unbreakable streets of New York City," she proclaimed. "Thank you so much. Tonight, I want you to forget all of your insecurities because I didn't used to be brave but you have made me brave, little monsters."
She then kicked it old school with "Boys Boys Boys."
"Are we gonna get divided now if I put this on?" she asked before pulling on a Yankees cap. After a quick chat with a fan, she went right into "Telephone," without an appearance from Beyoncé, despite fan murmurings that Queen B might make an appearance.
Gaga then sat at her piano and slowed things down with "Speechless."
"I come from a long line of Italian men. Freakin' eye makeup fell off," she interjected, peeling off her false eyelashes. "If you think I'm going to go on HBO without fingernails, you're wrong. The men in my family all really like to drink, so I spent my whole life chasing after men who drink as much as them, so cheers to all of you."
She tailored the lyrics to her hometown and the men she knows with shout-outs to baseball games and her former nail salon on Clinton Street. For a moment, the show became more cabaret then dance hall. "And God bless the New York Fire Department: They told me I couldn't light my piano on fire."
Before hitting the piano again for "You & I," she had a message for the excited, cheering crowd: "This is for you, New York. This is on my new record, Born This Way."
She belted: "There's something about Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, Staten Island ... you and I."
Later emerging as an angel, Gaga performed "So Happy I Could Die." "Your outfit is amazing," she shouted to her fans.
Before the crowd-pleaser "Monster," she asked the crowd, "Do you think I'm sexy, 'cause I think you're sexy. ... You were born with a little extra strength. ... I'm up here to empower all of you."
In the midst of performing "Teeth," Gaga laid out on the stage floor and began to feel up a male dancer. "Just in case you ever wonder if I ever lip sync, the answer is no. ... Show me your teeth," she said. "It's a really good thing this is for HBO."
A saint statue was rolled out onto the stage for "Alejandro." "Put your hands up for equality," Gaga urged. "Love each other."
Given all the excitement, it was easy to forget the whole show is about Gaga trying to get to the Monster Ball. When she finally arrived at the ball, she played "Paparazzi."
"Thank you so much for being brave," she told her fans as firecrackers exploded from her bra. "And when they ask you 'How was Lady Gaga?' you can tell them we burned the place to the f---ing ground. I don't want to be your queen. You were born this way, baby."
After a short intermission, Mother Monster reappeared for an encore, pleasing the room with "Bad Romance." "You'd better not leave when this song is over 'cause there's just one more surprise," she promised. "You're my heart and soul."
She stood fierce and proud, taking in the crowd. "I might do something a little extra special for you, but only if you scream really slutty for me," she proclaimed before exiting the stage as the band played out "Bad Romance."
To the excitement of her fans, Gaga emerged in her Grammy attire to perform "Born This Way." "Where's all my girls?" she asked. As dancers took the stage beside her, she said, "We just want to remind you all tonight, we want you to remember to never give up on your dreams."
She sang part of the song a cappella, then played it full out, reenacting her memorable Grammy performance. The show ended with her and her dancers in an embrace as the curtain came down over them.

Justin Bieber gets his hair cut

After months of teasing that he might cut his famous hair, Justin Bieber debuted a shorter 'do Monday.
TMZ got the lowdown from the pop sensation on his new look. Photos of the cropped cut — courtesy of his hair stylist, Vanessa — appeared on the website Monday. In one photo, Bieber is with Gary LeVox, lead singer of Rascal Flatts, on the set of the video for their duet, "That Should Be Me," from Bieber's Never Say Never - The Remixes.
Biebs explained that he "wanted to change it up" and that he thought the cut was "kind of a mature look." He will turn 17 next month, so perhaps the new 'do is a step in an older direction for the teen star.

So, what will happen to the remains of his famous former swoop? Well, TMZ reports the clippings will be given to charity to raise money for various causes, including animal rights.
In December, Bieber foreshadowed the perfect timing for a haircut, saying, "I think after my movie, I might cut my hair a little shorter." It was a sentiment he first shared with Barbara Walters.
Last year, Bieber's pal and maybe girlfriend, Selena Gomez, admitted that she wanted to shear off his locks. "Everybody wants to cut his hair. I want to cut his hair!" she revealed in October. "You're with him and you have, like, a 45-second conversation and it's like, [he's flicking his hair the entire time], and I'm like, 'Why are you doing that?!' "
